New ALS skill definition

by      Mar 29, 2022

In the ALS report (the first report under the Student Experience tab), we show you a closer look at ALS runs in the field. For a long time, an "ALS call" was limited to runs where either an ECG and an IV were reported or runs with a medication administration other than oxygen. Due to popular demand, we have expanded the report to include a new definition of ALS.

With the new definition of an ALS skill, a call will be considered ALS if any of the following are indicated:

  • IV attempt
  • Primary impression of Cardiac Arrest
  • Med administration other than oxygen
  • ECG reading
  • Any of these Airway skills: Esophageal Obturator, Esophageal Gastric Obturator, Combitube, Pharyngeotracheal Lumen, Nasotracheal Intubation, Digital ET Intubation, Valsalva Maneuver, Carotid Sinus Massage, LMA - Laryngeal Mask Airway, Endotracheal Tube, KING LT
  • Any of these skills from the "Other" section: Cricothyrotomy, 12 Lead EKG, NG Tube - OG Tube, Field Amputation, Foley Catheter, Suture, Pericardiocentesis, Chest Tube, Blood Glucose Level Chk., Central IV Line, Capnography - Capnometry, Valsalva's Maneuver, Carotid Sinus Massage, Blood Draw, Autopsy, IV Removal, Opthalmoscope, Otoscpe, Endo. Sterile Suctioning, CPAP, Chest Decompression
